The fatal bashing of a security guard in a Sydney ice-cream store has been described as "vicious" by police.
Hans Schulz, a 69-year-old man from Germany, died after he confronted two people who allegedly broke into a ground-floor Wendy's ice-cream kiosk at Broadway Shopping Centre on Sunday night.
A 28-year-old Maroubra woman and a 33-year-old Randwick man have been charged with manslaughter and will face Newtown Local Court later on Monday.
Two children, aged five and three, witnessed the attack and have been put into the care of their grandparents, Superintendent Michael O'Toole told reporters.
"This was certainly an attack that's uncalled for and it's vicious," Supt O'Toole said.
