A man who hired a hitman to kill his ex-wife will be sentenced to a prison term on Friday after being found guilty of attempted murder.
A Brisbane Supreme Court jury on Thursday evening found Steven John Clark guilty of the attempted murder of his wife Sonya Maree Clark.
Ms Clark was shot in the stomach at close range with a single barrel shotgun when she opened the door to an unknown man on April 16, 2004.
She survived after being rushed to hospital and undergoing surgery to remove numerous gunshot pellets lodged in her chest and abdomen.
During the trial, the court heard Mr Clark used $10,000 from the sale of his car to hire a gunman to kill his wife.
It heard he was embroiled in divorce and custody battles with his ex-wife and allegedly organised the attack so he could see his young children more often.
However, defence barrister Peter Davis, SC, called on the jury to acquit Clark because there was no hard evidence linking him to the shooting.
"They don't know and can't prove who the shooter was," he said.
Justice James Douglas adjourned sentencing until Friday.
