BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) Doctors say Imre Kertesz, the 2002 winner of the Nobel Prize in literature, is in stable, satisfactory condition after breaking his hip and undergoing surgery.
Military Hospital director Lajos Zsiros said Kertesz broke his right hip in a fall Thursday at his Budapest home. Zsiros said recovery from the injury could take up to three months but it would be determined later how long the 84-year-old Kertesz would remain hospitalized.
Kertesz, a survivor of Auschwitz and other Nazi death camps during the Holocaust, has Parkinson's disease.
His most famous work, "Fatelessness," is a semi-autobiographical novel about his experiences as a teenager in the death camps. It was first published in 1975.
