Australian Prime Minister John Howard is due to meet US President George W. Bush in Washington today.
The two leaders will plant saplings from 200-year-old trees at the White House into the garden of the Australian ambassador's home.
They are expected to talk about the war in Iraq during a meeting later this week.
Mr Howard says his visit to Washington is an "unparalleled opportunity" to discuss issues with the Bush administration.
One of those is the possibility that Australia may take back nuclear waste from any uranium it has exported.
