BRISBANE - A home has been destroyed by a bushfire in central Queensland as around 50 blazes rage across the state.
The unoccupied property was lost at Lakes Creek in the Mt Archer area, west of Rockhampton, the Department of Community Safety said.
Sheds, cars and playground equipment were also lost, but firefighters save a school, ABC Radio has reported.
Residents of Frenchville, Koongal, Lakes Creek and other areas of Mt Archer were told to evacuate their bushland homes if it was safe to do so on Saturday afternoon.
The blaze in Mt Archer National Park was moving with erratic winds and was uncontrolled, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service (QFRS) said.
The fire service expected structures to be lost and "strongly advised" residents to leave the area.
Water bombing and backburning will continue in the area on Sunday.
The QFRS is fighting up to 50 blazes in other parts of the state but no other homes are threatened.
Fire bans are in place in dozens of council areas until midnight Monday, October 19, and may be extended if dangerous fire conditions continue across the state.
