Because of Israeli roadblocks and West Bank restrictions, more than half of Palestinian mothers give birth at home instead of risking a ride to a hospital, say Israeli human rights groups.
A report released yesterday said ambulances had often been blocked at checkpoints, and many mothers preferred not to risk giving birth at a roadblock. Before the conflict, about 95 per cent of Palestinian babies were born in hospitals.
