TEHRAN - Hopes have risen for an Iranian teenager sentenced to death for stabbing a would-be rapist after Islamic judges said she had not committed intentional murder.
Nazanin Fatehi was sentenced to be hanged a year ago, but a retrial was ordered after an Iranian-born singer, Nazanin Afshin-Jam, gained more than 300,000 signatories to a petition.
Nazanin Fatehi was 17 when she was attacked by three men. She stabbed the man who died in the chest.
