A doctor at a Hong Kong hospital died yesterday after contracting atypical pneumonia, becoming the second frontline medical worker to have died of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (Sars) virus in the territory.
Tse Yuen-man, 35, who worked in Tuen Mun hospital, contracted the disease on April 3. She had been treating patients with Sars from late March. Tse had been in intensive care.
Her death brings to 219 the number of people to die from Sars. On April 26, nurse Lau Wing-kai, 38, died after contracting Sars while on duty.
