Hill resigns from Australian politics

Defence Minister Robert Hill yesterday announced he was quitting his "comfort zone" of politics amid speculation he would become Australia's ambassador to the United Nations.

The moderate Liberal stood in the grounds of Parliament House in Canberra and said he would retire during the next session of Parliament after a quarter of a century in federal parliament.
