BAMAKO, Mali (AP) A government communique read on state television says that at least 24 people were killed in Mali's capital following a torrential rain which began Wednesday.
The statement read on Wednesday night from the Ministry of Interior Security said that the rains and subsequent flooding had caused houses made of mud, known as banco, to collapse in several neighborhoods of Bamako. The people were killed by the collapsing walls.
Mali's private newspapers are reporting more than 50 deaths.
