Fifteen elderly people were rescued from a nursing home in Texas after a photo of them sitting in floodwaters spread on social media.
The shocking scene came as Tropical Storm Harvey caused widespread flooding across the state, inundating homes and submerging highways.
David Popoff, an emergency management coordinator, confirmed 15 people were rescued from La Vita Bella, an assisted living facility in Dickinson, nearly 50km south of Houston, the Daily Telegraph reported.
"We were air-lifting grandmothers and grandfathers," Popoff told The Galveston County Daily News, hours after the viral photo emerged showing at least eight people, and one cat, sitting in a room with muddy water up to their waists.
