KEY POINTS:
Mohamed Haneef has arrived in Bangkok in transit on his way home to India.
Dr Haneef remained within the Bangkok International Airport's inner terminal and did not pass through Thai immigration.
He flew out of Brisbane early today after Australian authorities dropped a terrorism-related charge against him.
An Associated Press cameraman, who was inside the terminal, said Dr Haneef was seen leaving Thai Airways flight TG992 and move quickly to a first-class lounge within the terminal.
He said Dr Haneef had remained tightlipped about his release from custody in Australia.
A flight is due to depart at 7.30pm local time (12.30pm NZT) to Bangalore, where Dr Haneef will be reunited with his wife and the newborn daughter he's never seen.
Dr Haneef was released from a Brisbane jail on Friday night after a charge against him of providing support to a terrorist organisation was dropped.
He had been incarcerated since his arrest at Brisbane airport on July 2 in relation to the foiled bomb attacks in the United Kingdom in late June.
Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews is facing calls for an inquiry into his handling of the Mohamed Haneef case, as he defended his decision not to reinstate the Indian doctor's work visa.
