BAGHDAD - Guerrillas launched a number of attacks in Iraq on Thursday, killing at least eight people and wounding 33, police and witnesses said.
Major-General Mohsen Abed al-Sadah, an assistant to the deputy minister for intelligence in the Interior Ministry, was shot dead outside his home in Doura, southwest Baghdad, Interior Ministry sources said.
Pressure has mounted on Iraq's politicians to end months of bickering since Jan. 30 parliamentary elections. Washington's top general has urged them to form a new government quickly to combat an insurgency he says is as strong as it was a year ago.
Prime Minister-designate Ibrahim al-Jaafari told reporters on Wednesday he had sent his proposed cabinet list to the three-man presidential council for approval and said he expected it would go before the National Assembly for a vote on Thursday.
