KEY POINTS:
SYDNEY - The greens at a Sydney golf club have been vandalised over the culling of the local duck population.
Warringah Golf Club in Sydney's east has hired a shooter to cull native wood ducks, raising the ire of local residents.
Parts of the greens were torn up on Saturday and a threatening note was left, which read: "Warning: you bastards kill one bird and we will destroy all your greens at our leisure. We will be watching and waiting."
Warringah Golf Club general manager Brian Leggett said the ducks dig up greens as they forage for food and left faeces.
The National Parks and Wildlife Service has issued a licence allowing the cull for three months.
Police are investigating the vandalism.
