Greece mourned its first death on Friday from a string of devastating summer wildfires, when a small water-dropping plane crashed during an island firefighting operation, killing the pilot.
The accident came a day after firefighters put out a huge blaze that had ravaged forests and communities just north of Athens, destroying or damaging nearly 300 buildings - most of them homes.
