A Florida woman has pleaded no contest to a scheme to sell her infant grandson. Patty Bigbee admitted selling a child and communications fraud. She faces up to 10 years in prison at her August 11 sentencing.
Authorities say the 46-year-old woman and her 42-year-old boyfriend, Lawrence Works, accepted a US$30,000 ($37,000) cheque in November for then 2-month-old Aidan Fleming at a Daytona Beach parking lot.
The buyer was an undercover agent. Works and the child's mother, Stephanie Bigbee-Davis, 22, pleaded no contest for their parts in the scheme in March. Works was sentenced to the 133 days he'd spent in jail. Bigbee-Davis was sentenced to two years. Aidan remains in foster care.
