A man has allegedly run police cars off the road in a high-speed chase that only ended when he ran out of fuel on a busy Gold Coast highway.
Police received numerous calls on Monday about the man, aged in his mid-30s, speeding and forcing cars off the road on the Pacific Motorway as he drove between Ormeau and Gaven.
Officers who tried to intercept him were also forced off the road by the man's dangerous driving before an empty tank of petrol forced him to a stop at Gaven.
He then allegedly assaulted two officers and tried to steal a police car before he was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in police custody.
The two officers sustained minor injuries.
