CANBERRA - British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has reminded world leaders meeting in Sydney for Apec that any discussions on climate change must be in the context of other international talks.
Global warming is high on the Apec agenda, with Prime Minister John Howard aiming for non-binding targets to be set on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Leaders from 21 countries across the Asia-Pacific are coming to Sydney for the summit.
But Britain is not involved and its prime minister has urged the contributing countries to make sure any agreements made on climate change are taken on a global context.
"There are three major conferences on climate change coming up and I think all of them have a role to play," Mr Brown told ABC radio.
That includes conferences organised by the US, Germany and discussions in Bali, he said.
"I don't think there is any discussion that is going to be held on climate change that doesn't involve the issue of carbon emissions.
"So I do believe that these three conferences are the backdrop in which any discussion at Apec or anywhere else is going to be held."
