KEY POINTS:
BRISBANE - A 13-year-old girl run over during a high-speed police chase north of Brisbane has died in hospital.
The teenager was hit when a car believed stolen veered on to the footpath outside Redcliffe State High School in Redcliffe on Monday.
She was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Children's Hospital suffering from head and internal injuries but died yesterday.
The 19-year-old female driver has been charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. Charges were likely to be upgraded.
Assistant Commissioner Ian Stewart, of the Queensland Police Ethical Standards Command, said an investigation was under way into whether officers breached revised safe-driving policy guidelines, which include restrictions on pursuits.
"Our early investigations identify that the pursuit may have been within the [three] categories of the new policy. It's my understanding that the officers had knowledge that the vehicle had been suspected and was involved in offences but that has to be tested in the investigation."
