A small plane crashed between the German Parliament and Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's office in Berlin, killing the pilot. The plane hit the grassy ground between the two structures on Saturday.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known, but indications suggested that the pilot committed suicide.
Interior Minister Ehrhart Koerting ruled out a terrorist act and the pilot was named as Volker Klawiter, 39, who lived in the neighbouring Brandenburg district.
