Gatwick Airport terminal evacuated

Terrorism fears have struck London with Gatwick Airport evacuating it's north terminal.

A bomb squad has arrived at Gatwick Airport to handle the situation with BBC London reporting a "suspect package" is behind the scare - information the BBC says came through Sussex police.

The army has also turned up to Gatwick - the UK's second largest airport - with a controlled detonation expected to be on the way.

Gatwick Airport has also released an official statement, describing the evacuation as "precautionary" - though no official reason has been released for the evacuation being ordered.

"Due to an incident the north terminal has been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Extra staff on site are looking after passenger welfare," the statement said.

The UK development comes just hours after Paris was rocked by a ruthless series of terrorist attacks killing at least 150 people.

There are unconfirmed reports a man has been arrested after a gun and a hand grenade were found in luggage.

Meanwhile, reports in Germany are claiming a man was arrested in Bavaria carrying machine guns and explosives. Media reports claim the man was linked to the attacks in Paris.

Police confirmed the arrest, saying the man had "many machine guns, revolvers and explosives."

The man is from Montenegro.
