An Indian-flagged freighter with a failed engine was adrift yesterday in the storm-tossed North Pacific 870km southwest of Alaska's Adak Island, the US coastguard said.
The 28 crew on the 225m APJ Suryavir planned to abandon ship and board a containership expected to arrive today, Petty Officer Walter Shinn said. Meanwhile, a coastguard plane was bringing them supplies.
There were no reports of injuries.
