France's Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier will be deployed to the eastern Mediterranean to boost operations in Syria as Paris intensifies a bombing campaign against Isis (Islamic State).
"The aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle will set off on [Friday] for the eastern Mediterranean, which will triple our capacity to take action," President Francois Hollande told MPs in Versailles yesterday.
Hollande called on Russia and America to "unite our forces" in a coalition to destroy Isis.
Shortly before he spoke, Isis released a video promising to repeat the Paris terror attack in Washington.
In a sombre speech Hollande said he would call on the UN Security Council to pass a new resolution to "destroy Daesh [Isis]", describing Syria as "the biggest terrorist factory the world has ever seen".
