President Jacques Chirac has honoured 2800 French people who rescued Jews from the Nazis. At a ceremony at the Pantheon in Paris, Chirac paid tribute to members of the Righteous of France group who risked their lives to help Jews escape the death camps. Twelve years ago Chirac became the country's first President to recognise the French Government's role in the mass deportation of Jews during the Holocaust.
