Foreign Minister, Phil Goff, believes there's a 50/50 chance that a delicate truce in the strife-torn Solomon Islands will hold.
Two New Zealand Air Force planes have managed to evacuate people from Honiara today.
The first flight carried Mr Goff who'd been part of a Commonwealth ministers' delegation to the Solomons, calling for militias to lay down their arms.
They're also calling for an extension of the 14-day truce declared on Friday.
This afternoon nearly 90 people from New Zealand, America, Italy and Holland, touched down with Mr Goff at the Whenuapai Air Base in Auckland.
People on that flight say they're grateful to our government for getting them out.
