Police haven't ruled out arson following a horrific fire west of Melbourne overnight, with several people still unaccounted for.
Four children are unaccounted for following a blaze at a home in Melbourne's west overnight.
A man, a woman and an eight-year-old managed escape the fire in Werribee, which police said started at about 1am, but four other children remained missing on Sunday morning.
The man was rushed to hospital with serious smoke-related injuries, while the woman and eight-year-old were also in hospital being treated for smoke inhalation and a minor injury, respectively.
"Four people, believed to be children, are unaccounted for," police said in a statement on Sunday morning.
