Former Nato supreme commander Wesley Clark is considering a presidential bid next year to unseat George W. Bush.
"I am going to have to consider it," he told NBC's Meet the Press programme.
Clark, supreme commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation from 1997 to May 2000, discussed his disapproval of Bush's tax-cut scheme, his support for affirmative action programmes and for reconsidering the ban on gays openly serving in the military.
Clark would likely join the crowd-ed field of Democratic candidates, but sidestepped declaring any party affiliation.
