Former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has quit the ruling party after a long feud with his successor.
Mahathir's son Mokhzani Mahathir said his father is leaving the United Malays National Organisation party with "immediate effect".
He said the decision was a sign of no confidence in Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
