KEY POINTS:
MELBOURNE - A former ANZ Melbourne bank employee who stole A$7.4 ($8.47) million for a customer, and received $8000 in secret commissions, has been jailed for at least two years.
Stephen Craig Jenvey, 45, of Mooroolbark in Melbourne's outer east, pleaded guilty in the Victorian County Court to six counts of theft and three of corruptly receiving an inducement between June 2004 and March 2005.
Today, Judge John Smallwood jailed him for four years and three months, with a minimum non-parole period of two years.
Jenvey gave unauthorised loans to a customer, who gave him $8000 in secret commissions and a trip to Sri Lanka for an indoor cricket match, Judge Smallwood said.
Judge Smallwood said Jenvey had been through two marriage breakdowns and deserved some mercy.
He said Jenvey was gullible and he viewed the man he provided the unauthorised loans to as important.
"It's a sad thing to say that this amount of money was stolen by you in my view to obtain an important friend," Judge Smallwood said.
