Fiji's military will seek foreign help to maintain national security if they cannot do it themselves, the Fiji Times reported yesterday. It said that the military statement was delivered to a stunned interim government cabinet on Tuesday. It added that the military would support the formation of a government of national unity.
After last year's coup the military declared martial law and scrapped the constitution. Later it installed an interim government.
Fiji's Court of Appeal is expected to rule next month on the legality of the abrogation of the constitution. The High Court last year ruled the constitution was still in place and the original government should be restored to office.
