BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) Ford Motor Co in Romania will stop production for seven days next month in line with a dip in demand on the European market.
"The European market is very depressed," said Ana Maria Timis, company spokeswoman on Friday. She said some 14 million cars were sold in Europe last year, compared to 18 million cars five years ago. "Stopping temporarily not such a big deal, it is common."
Romania's Ford unit has 4,000 employees and makes 370 cars daily of which 95 percent are exported, mainly to Britain, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. It also produces 1,000 engines a day exported to China.
Ford has invested 800 million euros ($1.06 billion) since it took over Romanian carmaker Automobile Craiova in 2008. It started production of its B-Max model at its Craiova plant last year.
