Forces resume ties

The United States said last night that it will resume cooperation with Indonesia's special forces after more than a decade.

Defence Secretary Robert Gates made the announcement after meeting Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in Jakarta.

Cooperation between the US military and Indonesian Army's elite units had been suspended over human rights abuses committed by the Southeast Asian country's feared special forces.
