NASA has broadcast a song from the surface of Mars for the first time.
Black Eyed Peas singer will.i.am's new song "Reach for the Stars", was broadcast from the Curiosity Rover and streamed live from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California at 1pm Pacific Daylight Time (8am NZT).
Members of the NASA team who successfully landed Curiosity on Mars and school students gathered at the lab to hear the new track.
The song features the auto-tune vocals popular in Black Eyed Peas' music, and the lyrics "why do they say the sky is the limit when I've seen the footprints on the moon?".
Will.i.am told students following the broadcast the song is a "reminder that anything is possible if you dedicate yourself and discipline yourself".
