The Gulf state of Qatar last night became the first Arab country to commit troops to a United Nations peacekeeping force in Lebanon, with an offer of 200 to 300 personnel.
They will join an expanded UN force set up to keep the peace between Israel and Hizbollah guerrillas in south Lebanon.
