SYDNEY - Firefighters remain on alert in New South Wales in Australia today as hot weather prevails in inland areas.
But the conditions were not expected to spark an emergency today as all existing fires were under control, the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) said.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a fire weather warning for the southern slopes, south-western districts, central west plains and parts of the Riverina, and total fire bans remain in force in those areas.
RFS spokesman Cameron Wade said fires were burning near Tumut and Cootamundra in the state's south but were not posing any threat.
There were also outbreaks near Goulburn last night but these were not serious.
"There are no fires of concern," he said.
"There are fires still burning but they've all been contained."
Firefighters would keep a close eye on any outbreaks throughout the day, Mr Wade said.
"Where the bans are, crews will be on standby," he said.
"We've got various trucks (available) depending on the threat."
The weather bureau is predicting conditions across the state to be similar to yesterday's, with hot and dry conditions continuing ahead of a cooler change.
