A mobile storage shed at McMurdo Station in Antarctica has been destroyed by fire.
The fire happened on Monday just hours after staff met to discuss fire safety at the American base, The Press newspaper reported.
A small blue shed on skis, dubbed "Smurf", it was used to store equipment for maintaining roads on the ice continent.
The shed was at Pegasus Airfield, about 30 minutes from the McMurdo Base, when it caught fire about 10.20am on Monday.
Fire crews rushed to extinguish the blaze but all that was left were two fuel tanks burning furiously.
Foam was used to quell the blaze with snow heaped over the smouldering ruins.
