The British Government is to hold an inquiry into the 1989 death of Belfast lawyer Pat Finucane, one of the most controversial of all killings in Northern Ireland. But its announcement seems certain to generate fresh criticism and allegations of a cover-up.
Northern Ireland Secretary Paul Murphy said much of the probe, into allegations that British security forces colluded in the killing, would be held in private because of national security.
