Fiji's opposition leader has defied the Government by meeting the country's military chief to discuss revelations about the 2000 coup.
Mahendra Chaudhry, deposed as Prime Minister in the coup, rejected Fiji Government assertions he should go through the Home Affairs Ministry rather than directly meeting Commodore Frank Bainimarama about information given to him by Maciu Navakasuasua, a nationalist who has served jail time for his coup role.
Navakasuasua told a Fiji newspaper last week there had been plans in 2000 to blow up sites in Nadi and Suva and shoot-to-kill orders made against Chaudhry and his multiracial government.
