Fiji Vice-President Jope Seniloli pleaded not guilty yesterday to treason-related charges linked to the 2000 coup.
Seniloli and five others, including the Sports Minister and Deputy Speaker of Parliament, have denied charges of taking oaths to commit treason, which carries a maximum term of life imprisonment. The case was expected to last six weeks.
During the coup, Seniloli was sworn in as President. He was later involved in swearing in four of the co-defendants in ministerial positions.
