KEY POINTS:
Nine people who were charged - in addition to New Zealand millionaire Ballu Khan - with conspiracy to assassinate Fiji coup leader Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and his Cabinet ministers may have their charges withdrawn.
Justice Andrew Bruce yesterday gave the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) office two weeks to review the charges against the remaining nine men still before Suva's High Court, the Fijilive news website reported.
Mr Khan was also charged with the offence but a permanent stay was granted on all charges laid against the businessman, who is now in Australia.
All 10 men were arrested in November 2007, almost a year after Commodore Bainimarama overthrew the elected Government in a December 2006 bloodless coup.
Justice Bruce told DPP lawyer Nancy Tikoisuva that the charges must be reviewed and that if there were any changes in the two weeks, she should inform all parties involved.
Naitasiri chief Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, former Army Land Force commander Jone Baledrokadroka, former counter-revolutionary warfare soldiers Fehoko Gadekibua, Barbados Mills, Eparama Waqatairewa, Kaminieli Vosavere and Pauliasi Namulo, businessman Sivaniolo Naulago and former Fiji Intelligence Service chief Metuisela Mua have been charged with the offence. The case will be called again on December 12.
