Favourite weapon used by Kanaan for suicide

A Syrian police investigation has confirmed that Interior Minister Ghazi Kanaan committed suicide.


He shot himself in the mouth with his favourite United States-made Smith and Wesson revolver. An aide said a calm Kanaan completed paperwork, drove home to get the revolver and then returned.


Moments later, a shot rang out. That day Kanaan had rung a radio station and denied claims he had tried to influence a United Nations probe into the February killing of Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri.
