Methane gas caused by rotting fish was believed to have caused the deaths by asphyxiation of two Lithuanian fishermen off southern Sweden.
The two were working in the hold of a fishing boat when they were overcome by the powerful fumes believed to have been generated by the catch of sprat.
Despite a sizeable rescue operation, the two crew members could not be saved.
