SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) A 74-year-old former Puerto Rico mayor has been placed on house arrest after being found guilty of groping and sexually harassing five municipal workers for two years.
A judge on Wednesday suspended a nearly 10-year sentence for Angel Malave in favor of a one-year house arrest. He will be on probation for the remaining years and is required to register as a sex offender.
Malave had been found guilty in September on nine counts of lewd acts involving five female employees of the central town of Cidra. He had served as Cidra's mayor for more than 20 years.
Malave declined to comment as he left the courthouse.
