The 600 prisoners at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba must be told of a US Supreme Court ruling that allows them to challenge their detention in American courts, say two former inmates.
Shafiq Rasul and Asif Iqbal, British citizens who spent more than two years in custody before being released without charge in March, say they hope the ruling "marks the beginning of the end of Guantanamo Bay and all it stands for".
"We ask that the US Government gives a public undertaking that each detainee will be told today that he has a right of access to the US courts and be provided today with a lawyer to make that access a reality."
