WASHINGTON (AP) Members of a delegation from the European Union Parliament say they will look into a claim by the director of the National Security Agency that European countries helped it collect phone records in Europe.
NSA Director Gen. Keith Alexander told Congress the U.S. was given data by NATO partners as part of a program to protect military interests.
Claude Moraes, a British Labor Party politician, and other delegates spoke to reporters on Monday on a visit to Washington to conduct intense talks about widespread U.S. spying that has angered Europe and threatened trans-Atlantic trust.
The delegation did not say whether spy agencies in Europe were complicit in the NSA spying.
Moraes said only that the inquiry would look at oversight both in the U.S. and within European intelligence services.
