SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has pledged $3 million to help clean up a site in northern Puerto Rico where workers recycled metal and crushed batteries.
The EPA says it will cover the contaminated soil with gravel and clean soil at the former Scorpio Recycling site in the city of Toa Baja. The company operated from 1972 until 2010.
The Puerto Rico Federal Affairs Administration office said Wednesday that the EPA will review the site every five years to ensure it remains clean.
