WASHINGTON - The US Electoral College has voted for Republican Texas Gov. George W. Bush to become the 43rd president of the United States, 41 days after the American public voted.
The four votes from Nevada put Bush's electoral vote tally at 271, one more than 270 required to prevail in the 538-member Electoral College. These votes will be officially counted in a joint session of Congress on January 6th.
Democratic contender Vice President Al Gore won the popular vote by more than 300,000 votes, but narrowly finished second in the Electoral College when he lost a legal battle for Florida's pivotal 25 electoral votes.
