KEY POINTS:
Eighteen people were arrested during yesterday's anti-Apec protests in Sydney, police say.
Nine men and five women, aged between 20 and 40, were charged with varying offences including assault, assaulting police, throwing a missile, offensive conduct, resisting arrest, affray, breaching a secure area and hindering police.
One of the men, a 40-year-old arrested during the march along Park Street yesterday faced 10 charges, four counts of assault, one count of throwing a missile and five counts of resisting arrest.
He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.
Five other people charged with assaulting police were also remanded in custody to face different courts today.
Eight more were released on bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on October 11.
Police said four others were released without charge.
Assistant Commissioner Peter Parsons said the Apec police operations would continue for several more days.
"While there are visiting Apec dignitaries in Sydney, police officers will remain at a heightened state of readiness to respond to any incident," Mr Parsons said in a statement today.
"All police involved in Operation Contego will continue with their duties for several more days to ensure the Apec commitment is successfully finalised."
