1. A blast in the heart of Turkey's capital, Ankara, targeting a military convoy has killed 18 people and injured 60. The attack occurred near Parliament and military headquarters. Reports said it was a car bomb.

2. Apple is to contest a court order to help the FBI access data on the phone belonging to San Bernardino gunman Syed Farook. Chief executive Tim Cook said: "We oppose this order, which has implications far beyond the legal case at hand."

3. Pope Francis has been visiting a Mexican jail on the last day of his tour of the country. Cereso jail in Ciudad Juarez has 700 inmates, including 250 women. The Pope is to celebrate Mass on the US border with about 200,000 people.

4. A UK campaign group has analysed 131 hot drinks sold in cafes and discovered a third contained as much sugar as a Pepsi or Coca-Cola. The worst cases contained 20 or more teaspoons of sugar. Starbucks, Costa and Caffe Nero said they were committed to reducing sugar. The drinks included flavoured coffees such as mochas and lattes, hot fruit drinks and hot chocolate.

5. The first of several convoys carrying aid to besieged areas of Syria has arrived. Trucks entered the rebel-held town of Muadhamiya near Damascus. Aid is also heading to Madaya, Zabadani, Foah and Kefraya.

6. Two planes collided on the taxiway at a Detroit airport. The wing of an American Airlines plane clipped the tail of a Southwest Airlines plane.

7. An Indian company is due to launch what is being billed as the world's cheapest smartphone. Ringing Bells said the Freedom 251 phone would be priced under 500 rupees (US$7.3) but Indian media report it could be as low as 251 rupees (US$3.67). The BBC reports the phone has 8GB of storage and cameras on the front and back.

8. Archaeologists have discovered Jerusalem is even older than thought, Haaretz reports. They have found 7000 year old houses at Shuafat in the north of the city during the building of a road. It was widely assumed the city was 4000 to 5000 years old.
