1. Airstrikes in northern Syria have hit hospitals and a school, according to Medecins Sans Frontiers and activists. Reuters says 23 civilians have been killed.

2. Reuters reports that Isis used mustard gas in Iraq last year. Tests by the global chemical weapons watchdog the OPCW confirm the source of the attack on 35 Kurdish troops fighting Isis last August near Erbil - the first known use of the chemical weapon in Iraq since Saddam Hussein's fall.

3. A MD-11 jet has been impounded in Harare after it stopped in Zimbabwe for refuelling on its way from Germany to South Africa. Zimbabwe officials say it contained millions of South African rand and a dead body - believed to be a stowaway.

4. The leopard who injured five people at a school in India is on the run again after escaping from Bannerghatta zoo at Bangalore. About 50 people are searching for the male leopard.

5. Letters show Pope John Paul II had an intense 32-year relationship with a woman, the BBC reports. The correspondence with Anna-Teresa Tymieniecka, a Polish philosopher, started when the Pope was Karol Wojtyla in 1973. There is no indication of a sexual relationship.

6. A Cambodian businessman, who was captured on a nightclub camera punching and kicking a TV presenter, will be free from jail after only four months. Sok Bun was sentenced to three years in jail but all but 10 months was suspended. After time served he is left with four months. The attack on Ek Socheatha was to her head while his bodyguard pointed a gun at her.

7. The discovery of claw marks in a Australian cave filled with bones suggests an extinct marsupial lion, Thylacoleo carnifex, could climb trees and rocks. The lion weighed more than 100kg and lived 50,000 years ago.

8. Former Sunderland and England football player Adam Johnson has gone on trial in Bradford denying two counts of sexual activity with a 15 year old girl.
